LALITPUR: Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan have set up the title clash of the AVC Asian Senior Men’s Central Zone Volleyball Championship after victories in the semi-final matches played on Thursday at the Army Physical Training and Sports Centre in Lagankhel, Lalitpur.
Kyrgyzstan, who made to semi-final as Group ‘A’ winners, stunned defending champions Turkmenistan in straight sets of 25-17, 25-18, 25-22.Uzbekistan, the Group ‘B’ winners, thumped Maldives in straight sets of 25-20, 25-19, 25-21 for place in the final. Following the wins,
both the finalists maintained their cent percent winning run to the title decider match in straight sets. While Kyrgyzstan had edged hosts Nepal and Maldives in the group rounds, Uzbekistan had defeated Turkmenistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan in the group rounds.
The final will be played on Saturday. Nepal will play fifth place playoff match against Afghanistan on while Maldives will vie against Turkmenistan in the third place match on Friday.
